We have a few frogs around the house. This little guy normally sits on the bathroom mirror. He's sitting under a new plant in our garden to add interest to the pic for the non-hosta lovers out there!!!
The hosta is "Little Treasure", a mini hosta that a friend gave me a few weeks ago to congratulate us on our new granddaughter. It is a sport of "LIttle Jay" and will only grow up to 8 inches high but will fill in to be a robust clump, if I take proper care of it. It got a good start with some compost, hence the egg shells on the top of the soil.
I agree with you: the frog is just a prop for those that do not appreciate hostas. Thanks for the little treasure of an idea. We have probably over 50 varieties of the >7000 hostas, mainly top rated and hosta of the year varieties. The small ones are nice for filling in around the edges. Thanks much.
@morrisroos I have almost the same number Don, not counting ones I grew from seed. One day I'd like to gather my hosta notes and pics into a database ... maybe over the winter. Many thanks for your comments and for being an appreciative and enthusiastic fellow hosta lover.
Love the frog. I've enjoyed seeing your hostas--I never knew there were so many varieties. My mom grew a couple, but I never really appreciated them....
I love hostas! They remind me of the poet Stanley Kunitz who grew beautiful ones in his garden in Provincetown. I planted a small garden of them in my front yard his honor after I interviewed him for his 100th birthday.
