Bumble Bee Sex by sunnygreenwood

Bumble Bee Sex

The Bumble Bees were very busy in the garden today. I caught this one on the sedum. I didn't know until today there are over 250 kinds of bumble bees. I learned something new about bumble bees yesterday too. We talked about them at a nature club I belong to. It seems that the female can receive sperm from a male and store it for later. Before she lays an egg, she decides whether or not to use the sperm to fertilize it. Non-fertilzed eggs grow into males, and fertilized eggs grow into females and queens.

Many thanks for dropping by.
Great close up
