The other time I posted a group shot of Evening Grosbeaks, it captured predominantly males so I thought I'd show you a more typical scene with both males and females.
Our deck faces west and this is the left hand rail [south] side. The scene on the right is more or less the same. They're still quite skittish but will hopefully get used to us before long. The males are yellow and the females are grey.
Anne, this is wonderful! I love your shots of one or two birds, but this is neat, too, because it shows how so many of them gather on your deck. You must have a five-star restaurant!
What does this do to your "food" bill, Anne! But I would do the same if we weren't renting. Not only fun to photograph them, but also to watch them too. This is a beauty of a catch . . beautiful colors whether male or female. Striking!
I am so jealous. Our Grosbeaks haven't been here at all this winter. Boy, you sure have a bunch! We also feed birds and feel it's well worth it for the pleasure they bring.
I love their cheerful yellow color against the snowy scene. I can't imagine seeing so many gorgeous birds at one time, and I'm still amazed that you do on a regular basis.
