Regardless of what other birds are around, the Hairy Woodpeckers will still show up on the deck. They don't seem to scare off the little birds, nor are they intimidated by the jays and grosbeaks. This guy's head could have been in focus if he would just stay still for a second.
See....you are starting to name them...super closeup...can even see the hairs on his chin (?)...do birds have chins....whatever the area is called under their beak....LOL
I love this little woodpecker! They move really fast, though! All of my attempts to capture one have been failures, so I'm impressed that you got such a fabulous shot of one.
Wow, how do you get so close with that little camera? Great close up. Your photos this season have given me a real look at the birds' plumage and habits.
another awesome shot of the woodpecker. my partner said he's going to put up a bird feeder next to my window and told me he'll be expecting some great shots of the birds. i told him my name is not anne burnette and i said she's the bird expert, can't compete with the best!
