We rarely put out anything other than black oil sunflower seeds for the birds. I've been putting out a handful of peanuts each morning for the past few days and they disappear very quickly. I thought it would be the squirrels who would grab them up but it turns out it's the Blue Jays.
Great timing! I'd love for a Bluejay to steal some peanuts, but alas, it's only squirrels at my house! Haven't even heard a Bluejay and the fir trees are usually full of them. This odd winter must have driven them elsewhere.
Wow, he has his mouth full! Good idea to put out peanuts. Great photo of a beautiful Bluejay, Anne! Iknow people consider them a nuisance, but they are so beautiful that I love them.
Wow . . wonderful catch, Anne. The clarity is fantastic. He's got his mouth full there. I wonder how they break them open. Great capture of something that I've never seen before.
excellent shot. and then i wonder how they're going to eat the peanut. hope this one doesn't get a jaw ache from that! i love blue jays...now if only they can get into the playoffs (that's my line with the partner every time the words 'blue jay' are mentioned.)
