This is Stinking Well. Llanwrtyd Wells was once a spa town following the discovery of waters with supposed healing properties in1732 by the Reverend Theophilus Evans. In Victorian times it was very fashionable to 'take the waters' and visitors flocked to this little town in their hundreds . Stinking Well (Ffynnon Ddrewllyd in Welsh) is the only well which can be seen today. It gets its name from the strong smell of hydrogen sulphide gas dissolved in the water. If you walk into Llanwrtyd Wells from Kilsby you can walk past Stinking Well (which has been restored)and peer into it. It doesn't look very inviting and the smell of Hydrogen sulphide is very strong. It was supposed to be good for the skin! I walked past today so I decided to take a photo.
