Topsy - My Very Favourite Doll

I would never have thought of taking a picture of this doll but Charlotte is doing a project at school which involves taking photos in of the toys their grandparents played with. I thought I would also use the photo for 365. This doll was always old. I think it was my aunt's. She would have been in her early nineties now so Topsy is very, very old.
What a little beauty !! Not many black dolls to be seen these days - My friend and my childhood next door neighbour had a black doll very similar to this one and I had a white doll made from the same mould !! We had great fun parading the two side by side in a dolls pram . We knew of no black children in those days in rural mid-Wales ! so this was a great novelty .

Literally a piece of history, Sue - lovely that you can share your old toys with the wee ones :-)

I have a doll called Topsy too. She comes from Abyssinia and was my mother's . Her brother brought it back at the end of WW2. I will post a photo of her when I get home!

That is soo strange. I too had a similar doll given by my grandmother when I was in hospital (tonsils - nothing grand). Unlike you Sue, my doll didn't have such care and I don't have her any more. Charlotte is lucky having such a granny.

We had a similar project at our granddaughter's school except we had to take an item in and discuss it with the class!

@beryl It's interesting that there were more black dolls in those days. I knew of no black children either up in Barnsley where I grew up.

@craig3f2 I think perhaps I got off lightly by living 200 or so miles away. Thank you for commenting.
