Edinburgh 3 The Scottish Parliament and Arthur's Seat
After the referendum in September 1997 the people of Scotland voted by almost three to one for the first Scottish parliament for almost 300 years. Seven years later, in 2004, this very modern and unusual building opposite the Palace of Holyroodhouse, to house the new parliament. was completed and opened. It was constructed using steel, oak and granite. It's a very impressive building both outside and in. In this photo you can see Arthur's Seat, a very large rocky outcrop which is in fact a dormant volcano.
