Aunty Martha has come home for a few days so she came with Emily and me to this restored coal mine at Blaenavon in the Welsh valleys. It was great fun. We were lowered down the vertical mine shaft(90 metres or 300 ft) in a "cage" and then we walked a long way deep into the mine. We all enjoyed it and Emily was relieved not to be living in Victorian times when she might have been working down the mine since she was 6 years old!
@beryl Thank you Beryl. I too was glad I'm not living in Victorian times as women went down the mines too. It was cold and damp and there would have been rats down there in those days!!!
