The Great Oak, Eardisley

Eardisley is the next village to the one where I live. This oak tree has a girth of 9m 17cm at chest height and is estimated to be about 900 years old. It has a hollow trunk which a small person can climb into. It isn't dead, it's just in it's winter plumage. A forest in this area was recorded in the Domesday Book in 1066 and this may be it's last surviving tree.
I have walked past this tree several times and there is ALWAYS a car parked right next to it. This time I decided to take a picture anyway.

It seems to have a face too Sue....that is a one eyed tree! Strange how hollow trees survive...we used to have one at our first farm....we never could believe how every year it got loads of leaves.
