This is one of the few possessions my grandmother brought from Poland when she (following her husband who had immigrated the prior year to set things up) and their seven children immigrated to the U.S. in 1914. A main reason was so their daughters would be educated. My mother had the book framed years ago and eventually gave it to me. I thought of her today as I worked with my colleagues in school literacy improvement, wondering what she would have thought. So, the photo today is simply to honor her memory.
Although the object itself is certainly of great personal value, I'm finding more and more that having a well-captured photo of an object also gives me the pleasure of memory and evokes just as many feelings associated with that memory. Glad you memorialized this cherished gift so nicely.
