After the rich flora of Honolulu from the past few days, and a red-eye flight home, going for a photo walk today to find something sunny and interesting felt like more of a challenge than it should have. Not much has bloomed yet, even the early plants like crocuses. But, growing along the driveway of a neighbors house, I spotted this tiny little plant that had begun to bloom. The whole thing was no more than an inch and a half at most, and only the bottom little things (petals? orbs?) had opened. The only way to capture it was to sit on the driveway and hold the camera low to the ground and hope for the best (I couldn't bring myself to lie down to see through the viewfinder!).
Thank you for all your views and comments and favs. So reinforcing to see it on the PP (4/8/13)
It turned out beautiful! The focus is perfect:) Strangely after reading your comment I went to latest just to check it out and this is the one that popped out to me. Nice work:) Very eye catching.
@steampowered Thanks for sharing the link, Paul. That's definitely what they are (I would guess they'd be called the same thing here as I've heard of hyacinths). There are some fantastic shots in think link!
@pflaume@darylo@nikolinadimitrova Thanks Lisa, Nikonlina, and Daryl. I was glad one came out - I think the little flowers are really stunning when I can get them up close. I'm sure I miss many beautiful ones as I walk along from a normal height but getting down that low isn't that easy!!
That turned out great, I love the contrast of the blue and white. The focus inside some of the flowers is so sharp!
If you had stretched out on the ground for the shot your neighbor might have run out to resuscitate you! (Or just step over you to get to the car, depending on the type of neighbor)
This is gorgeous. The DOF really makes it stand out. Now I'm curious to see if any of the flowers I've been looking down are hidden gems if I'll just stoop to see.
Beautiful capture, Taffy, even with your having to get into a strange pose. I love how this cluster shows completely closed, starting to open, beautifully perfectly just -opened to fully opened range. and the color is beautifully captured, too!
@jyokota Hi Junko -- thank you! I like your interpretation of the range of 'opening' of the flower. It's amazing to me that such a little flower is complex enough to be interesting.
Lovely shot- I shoot a lot of low to the ground things by just putting my camera down! And I know you've confirmed this already but it's definitely a Grape Hyacinth. Keep your eyes on it because they spread quickly and profusely!
@sailingmusic Ah -- I just love the little thing and had wished we had them in our own yard. @amandal@miley89 Thanks for the fav Amanda and Edie! @miley89 Thank you so much! @khirsch It's nice to have a name to go with it. Thanks for visiting! @olivetreeann A yard full of them would be so beautiful! @angeliquenordal Thank you! @cocobella Now I have TWO names for them! Mystery solved.
@taffy muscaris and grape hyacinth is the same flower, not two names but one name in two languages in German its Traubenhyazinthe so you have one in 3 languages
Love this one, too. I've done the same -- gotta love that viewfinder that allows you to NOT lie on the sidewalk. LOL My muscari have spread all over the lawn, and when they're all done, I just mow over them.
@khirsch@carolb Thanks Karin -- I just loved them and they seem to last for a few weeks, which is very nice!
Thanks Carol -- I can't believe you just mow these cute little things down!! And they still come back? Very cool!
@kazlamont @sjouk @carolmw @jodimuli @kcman5 @tinac1 @thirtysevenways @jaynspain @breigh Thanks so much for your comments. They are so encouraging and I appreciate it!
@gerry Thanks for the fav! Such a boost to the ego!
@colie Thanks! Blues were clearly on our mind!

@kimshots Thanks Kim. The driveway was cold, but after numbness set in, it didn't seem to matter!!
@lizakismith Thank you Lizanne. I appreciate the comment.
@nancyperry Thanks for the fav!
Congratulations on your PP, well deserved.
