This was a fun night. It's the last night I'll be doing urban night shots til late August (assuming I won't have time tomorrow and Sunday is the drive north). I wanted to take a photo of the moon from the roof, but it was too boring as there was nothing around it. The Sears Tower was Red/White/Blue for Memorial Day on Monday (I assume). And the "Wedding Cake" building looked beautiful. And the technique challenge this week is long exposures. So, put it all together and I:
(a) took the longest exposure I could of the moon, but even at f45 and low ISO, a half-second was about the longest I could do,
(b) took a long exposure shot of the Sears Tower, and
(c) took two long exposures of the wedding cake building and created an HDR.
THEN, I decided that the three form the main components of the skyline from our roof, so I'd combine them. I tried to figure out Perfect Layers but couldn't in the time I had, so ended up using Collage It.
I want to thank all of you who have viewed, commented on, and fav'd my two photos last week that ended up on the TT list. I'm was so excited when Lisa brought it to my attention this morning -- what a great start to the day! And I've been smiling all day. Thank you so much!
Thank you all so much for your kind comments, your fav's, your enthusiasm for the way the collage came out. As Ann said, I didn't want a big processed look to it, but was hoping to capture the main points of the view. I was so lucky to have such a clear night.
@espyetta Thanks for the fav, MaryBeth! Yes, it's online, just google "collageit" and download directions come up. It's free but you can't crop so positioning photos is very hard. But, it's only about $20.00 for the 'pro' and I decided it was worth it as you can crop to make the composition work.
@lesip It is SO easy to do the collage in Collage It. Just download the free version and play a bit -- I did, then decided to pay for the version that allows cropping. It really is fun.
Gosh, I missed this too. I'm a bit bad these days with 365 other than getting the shot in. Absolutely amazing. Fav. I love how we ALL saw the same moon--so many great shots on here. I was just thilled to get something other than a white blur! :)
@degarvey Thanks De -- it was an amazing send off for the summer. @darylo I know what you mean -- there were so many creative shots of the moon, as well as dramatic ones recording all the details. It was one of those nights where I could imagine so many of the 365 community thinking all day about the moon and being out there at night photographing it.
@hannahbanana24 Thanks Hannah -- I really appreciate it!
