Went on a relatively short hike with island friend Vickey and visiting friend Marilyn to Oeg Lake, an inland bog that is alive with wildflowers (iris and pitcher plants had just started blooming) and insects. The bog is weird...if you bounce up and down, you can see bushes move in the distance. I took several photos that I like so they may appear later this week as well. This is one of our favorites -- trying to figure out how the bee and ants coexist on the milkweed.
7.24.2013 Thank you, thank you! You are such a wonderful community! I was so excited to see this on PP today because of your comments/faves. I so appreciate your support and encouraging comments, and your critiques which have helped me improve so much since January!
Wonderful detail! Many species co-exist, the problems are usually when one wants to eat the other. As long as there is enough food to go around, they will probably just ignore each other.
@archaeofrog I had no idea what a pitcher plant looks like. I actually have to go back as the sun was so bright that they came out with too much light on them. They are such unusual looking things!
I have been witnessing some interesting bug combos on my coneflowers this year too. Perhaps there is some unknown trend occurring in the insect world that we do not know about- hehe.
