My mentor group has been working on street photography all month and I'm quite behind. Our first assignment was to shoot something without people, and then with people. I don't feel this is real street photography, but it was our group that inspired me to try to capture this popular area - the western edge of West Lincoln Park. Taken from the parking lot with my super-wide angle lens. If I'd had my telephoto with me, I would have focused on the figure in the lit doorway toward the bottom just left of center.
A turning point today -- When I had some errands to run late afternoon, I actually took my camera with me. Not since the fire have I bothered to carry it, so this felt good!

I'm carrying my camera again! So I plan to try to do some street photography over the next week. Sorry to have dropped the ball on this one as a participant. I've really enjoyed your shots! Here's my first tongue-in-cheek attempt since the fire shots.
Nice street photography from an interesting vantage point. I like that time of day when there is still plenty of light to shoot, and the buildings are starting to come alive with their own lights. Looks deserted, except for the cars. Is it not snowing at your part of the woods?!
@panthora We've been so lucky -- it's just devastated NY, but we are clear. It's going to start raining soon and rain all day tomorrow, but we won't have the snow others have gotten. Beaver Island has had several snow storms by now, so good thing we closed down when we did!
Great to hear you carrying your camera again. I've not done as much as I hoped. Not much time to escape village and its v hard to do street photography in a place where everyone knows you by name!! Hoping to get into the city this week. I like all the lighting.
Yay, so glad you are getting back to normal. Yes, definitely a shot of a street. The lighting is lovely. I look at this and wonder where all the people are considering there are so many cars around.
A good fulfillment of your street-photography challenge. And good that you are carrying your camera and photographing again. I can't wait to really catch up with you on everything . ..
The lighting at this hour is perfect for pictures. I think there's a sense of excitement when shop lights come on — it says business will continue as usual, come on in! Sweet news about you and your camera keeping company.
Bravo going out of house with the proper appendage! I'm horrible at "street" photos. I like the perspective on this one. Would lining the edge up with the old navy sign (instead of on a slant) be possible? I hope after year two I will join a group like you have. :) But my pace will be so much slower.
I keep hearing about all the snow back in your part of the country and I don't see any in your photos. The lighting is gorgeous as is the comp. Very cool urban shot. fav
OMG Taffy I am so sorry it has taken me so long to hear about the left turn your life has taken. I just can't imagine going through something like this but your account does bring it to life. Stay strong and I'm hoping Big Danbo finds his way home. The blessing in all of this is you and Jim are still here and life goes on.....
You are doing great job of catching up, even though this may not seem like anything that most people would think, oh this is a great pic. You sure turned this into eye catching idea. I'm not sure what it is, but i keep looking at it.
Hey, no snow. I thought Chicago and Toronto had similar weather. Second thought some of ours came from the north. Warm and rainy now. Love the warm colours of this shot.
Good shot, Taffy. But even better to see that you have picked up your camera again! As to this photo, it says a lot and gives the viewer something to look and feel as well! Fav!
Taffy, I've been away from 365 for quite awhile. I immediately began working my way backward through your project when I read the ominous words "since the fire." What an ordeal you've been through! I admire the grace with which you're moving forward. And BTW, a fabulous shot!
@taffy Great news Taffy, can't keep a good woman down for long. As to whether or not this image is street photography bothers me not a jot. It's a great photo, and keeps the eye wandering around looking for more.
I like it; always love seeing places I know ... and seeing how they've changed. I still think you have a sweeper that goes on ahead and tells the people to move out of the way because you're about to take a picture!
@darylo I rotated a bit -- couldn't totally line up the Old Navy sign but think this is better than before. I posted almost SOOC and didn't pay attention to the distortion. I should have used PT Lens on it to straighten up, but don't want to lose comments by replacing. I've loved the mentoring group -- highly recommend creating one!
Beautiful shot and so good to hear that the camera is in use again. Photography is great therapy in times of stress. I found 365 a great help early last year when times were pretty bad for me.
This is a fabulous shot, Taffy. It is so crystal clear. I love your processing and what you captured exactly in this photo. Forget the person about center bottom. FAV
Nice and crisp. And a bit of work to get those verticals all parallel with the wide angle.
I've recently noticed, shooting some FX, 24mm, the bottom of the classic 24-70 or is that the top of the 12-24 for you this time, really is *wide* whereas on the DX D7100 only mildly so. We know this in our head, it's only when shooting both that you really feel it in your gut.
I really like this photograph a lot Taffy! I love so many things about this photograph. The lighting the early evening hour, the lights coming from the Windows, the signs for all the different shops, The quietness of street. Great capture of the city or city life. Fav!
Oh I like this "street" shot Taffy - so much to look at!! Wonderful light and detail. I wish I had somewhere like this. I must get out again as we start the new week. I think it was B&W. So pleased you are out with your camera again!! It is getting back to normal!!
@pamknowler It was surprising to me to find this -- I was going to my car and turned around to see these beautiful golden tones so decided to turn it into a photo op. The people waiting for my spot weren't that happy with me, I suspect!
