P3 reporting on some great news...Teddy has returned home to us. Two men brought him today in a really huge box, all wrapped up in tissue papers and padding. Someone was really taking good care of him! He smells fine now and doesn't remind any of us of the smell of the fire and smoke. Danbo3 had never met him, of course, so here I am filling in Teddy on all that has been happening here since we last saw each other -- two whole months ago! Life is good. We hope you all have a good weekend. PS -- here's a photo of Teddy way before the fire, back in Taffy's early days of 365 - http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2013-02-27
Taffy will be back after she figures out how to back up her new Lightroom catalogue and, she thinks, the photos onto an external drive.
Downloaded and processed solely in LR.
P3 on Teddy's right arm makes him look like he is giving us a thumbs up!! I am a sucker for good stories like this, and I am dutifully touched by the reunification of new and old friends!
Really impressed with your perseverance with Lightroom. I took a class at the end of last year, and was thoroughly perplexed! I would have pursued it, but the holidays happened, and the new camera that I am still trying to figure out, and become familiar with, so that will have to wait till spring. I will definitely be asking you a lot of questions then!
@panthora Let's hope I know something and have more confidence by then! Thanks for hanging in there as I sporadically respond! I do appreciate it a lot!
Great news on the return of Teddy. Love seeing all of them together. It is so nice hearing of what is good that has come out of the fire. Good luck to Taffy with Lightroom.
So pleased you lovely Teddy has been returned to you Taffy!! Lovely shot of him meeting his new friends!! Good luck with LR - backups was where I had major problems. I thought I was backing up to an external drive but i also had backups on my hard drive - no wonder it got so full up!!
This is a lovely photo and I am so glad that you got your bear back :)
but ......I saw this and wondered why you had my panda!!! other than the fact that mine has one eye, this could me mine! I have to ask ..... does yours have a funny little thing that you can press in it's arm that makes a really bad squeak noise? :)
@neatz Anita, Teddy is about 77 years old. My cousin had him first and then when I was born, she or her mom (my aunt) gave him to me. Back then, he probably had fur! Al Bailey @willowdragon posted hers today -- looks to be from somewhere around the same overall era. Fun to see these much loved bears in their current shape!
Fav for the victory. After all that you've been through, its great to see the simple things being returned. A piece of home. Yesterday, during the worst to the cold and snow, we had to respond to a bad house fire, treat the injured. No one seriously hurt, the worst ironically was a gentleman who got some frost burn on his feet cause he grabbed his family and ran out of the house barefoot. Glad things are looking better. As for Lightroom, I have no idea how to work out the cataloging or storage. I usually just upload all my shots into folder on my desktop, when it gets too much, I just upload it to an external harddrive, then reupload if I need them.
@taffy You are welcome, Taffy. I deleted what I wrote as I did not want that much out there. A huge relief that we will all breath again and live normally.
It's little thinks like this that really brighten your day! Have (well my daughter does)a bear of same size but maybe worse condition that is now 51 years old. It's been dragged through lots of states and lots of beds - holes sewn many times - but she won't part with him.
Welcome home, Teddy! Okay, you're not quite 'home' yet but I bet it feels good to be back with the family. Taffy, I'm so glad something this precious survived the fire.
I barely (pun intended) noticed you there P3. I did see the Danbos though. Tell Taffy she can do a back up in LR each time she closes it. Edit, Preferences, General Tab, Go to Catalog Settings, General Tab
Taffy, I'm so pleased for you that bear is back where he belongs: things can be replaced but bear isn't a thing... he's evidence of moments passed and lives lived.
@bill_fe Thanks Bill, but when I (Taffy now, P3 turned it over to me) go there, the backup choices are simply how often. I initially set it up to save backup catalogue to my computer hard drive. I want to change it now so it backs up to an external hard drive.
@losthorizon If you use LR, it has a great cataloguing system so that it keeps track of where all your photos are no matter which hard drive or computer they are on. It's quite fantastic -- but you have to use keywords which is not a big deal as you can do those en masse on uploading. BUT, I set up the backup to my computer, so it will end up using up space and can't figure out how to get it to go to an external drive instead.
Wow -- re the person with frostbitten feet. He must have had to move his family out quickly!
@taffy Thanks for the info. Never realized LR's capabilities. Just use if for editing.
Yeah....the house went quick. Fully engulfed within minutes. He and his family are extremely lucky. Better a little frost burn compared to what the alternative could have been.
@taffy Moving a catalog to another location (also to an external drive as long as it's not a network drive) is no problem at all. Just move the *.lrcat file as well as the *.lrdata folder and double-click it from the new location to open it. Moving the *.lrcata folder also makes a new build up of the previews unnecessary at the new location.
Once you've opened it from the new location, it will open from that location by default.
I keep mine on an external hard drive, but I have written a batch file to copy it to an internal HD. I have four internal HDs in my PC.
How wonderful to have your bear back............it's irreplaceable things like this that we feel the greatest loss for ....... I bet Danbo was thrilled to have a new friend.
@amandal Thanks Amanda! I was so relieved. Yes -- I've had him since birth, I think, and he had belonged to my cousin before that, so he's quite old and threadbare. His 'friend' Beau (also from childhood) looks even older and decrepit, but they both made it through the fire and recovery treatments.
@taffy Super cool. I have my old bear still and he became my son's when he was young. He is so worse for the wear, but I really should get a shot of him! Thanks for the idea. Did you lose a lot? How's the living situation for you? Will the place be fixed or demolished?
@amandal We were very fortunate to have good insurance -- I've learned so much about the importance of insurance (I typically just looked for the best price but had followed my daughter-in-law's advice and gone with Chubb which has made a huge difference in our lives compared to the insurance company our neighbors are working with that also is the condo building insurance). So we are in a beautiful condo high above the city -- a high price to pay for living here, but it has been lovely. Our house is down to the studs and being rebuilt but the exterior is fine so we should be back in it at the beginning of May if all goes well -- out of the house for about 7 months. Quite a surreal time, but we are well despite the trauma and very fortunate to be alive and well cared for. Thanks for asking.
Saw this in your calendar view and had to check it out. Love how you set this help with Danbo and the Penguin. Awesome photo and so happy your Teddy came back!

I love lightroom but still don't have it really set up right. I just gave up and find everything using key words.

How old is the Teddy? I have a 60 year old one in a cupboard!
