Jim: Do you see the moon, hanging over the city?
Taffy: Yeah, but I already posted one like that when it was red.
Jim: You should go on the balcony and get it, it's beautiful.
Taffy: Yeah, right
Jim: You should. Put a coat on. It's cold. Go on the balcony
Taffy (thinking to self -- too dangerous): I can't open the door. It's stuck.
Jim: (unfortunately, being helpful). I'll get it.
Door opens.
Taffy: Stare at door...put camera on tripod and sit tripod outside the door. Recognize camera will not release shutter by itself. Must go outside.
Ta-Da!! From two shots bracketed because of the bright light from the left building. Taken with long exposure (felt like hours). Looking northeast. The light reflections on the left building are from the cars' headlights on the highway below. You can see the Chicago River and reflections. Beyond the further set of buildings is Lake Michigan and the sky.
PS -- Moon shot is also fun, but too similar to the red moon earlier this week.
@jamibann Thanks Issi -- I am truly terrified of heights, but it was so beautiful and it wasn't working to try to capture it through dirty windows and their reflections! I don't know when I'll get the nerve to do this again, but I'm glad I did it! Appreciate the visit and kind comment.
A Fav for the wonderful shot. If I could I'd Fav again for bravery!! I felt wobbly looking down from a castle this weekend ( not very high at all) let alone this. Well done you.
AAAAAAHHHHHHH! CONGRATULATIONS, TAFFYYYYY!!!!! (Do I sound a bit like Mara? Must be the Italian Passion!) You did it! Eventually! From now onwards it will be a breeze...can you imagine all the beautiful shots you will get from the new vista? This one, by the way, is really lovely with all the richness and variety of colours.
@lucypics Too bad we can't just switch photo contexts for a bit. We'd find each others' totally novel! Of course, this is novel to me since we are only here til our house is rebuilt from the fire...
@jo13 Our 'real' house looks out on one side to a brick wall, and on the other either glass blocks or into another condo building. So we REALLY appreciate this little detour if we had to be out of our home! It is amazing, and changes all the time -- right now I'm looking at lights through gray mist and snow. So different than last night or even this morning!
You go, Taffy! Not only is this photo filled with interesting structures, features and light, it represents profound bravery on your part. Mesmerizing view you have from your tower home.
When I stopped laughing at the dialogue I had time to look at this stunning picture. Wow, it was certainly worth your effort. But definitely worth a gold star and elephant stamp.
Did you really go out on the balcony????? My legs feel like jelly when I look down from by roof which is only 2 storeys high. What a spectacle!!!! Well worth it. Definitely a fav.
about time you do a self-portrait with this in the background. :-) i so envy you as i my apartment is half-buried, the ground being the level of my window sill.
@shepherdmanswife@newbank Thanks Chantal and Ruth! So cool that this made it to TT. It's definitely reinforcing me to brave the balcony again (not for TT, but because it means that folks thought it was worth the risk to get this shot!). A nice way to start the weekend and boost a blah-ness I'd been feeling about my shots!
Im still seriously impressed with the bravery thing. As stated before I'd still be stuck contemplating being that high up in a building to start with!!
It's a truly spectacular shot! So worth the time it took to muster up the courage to get it. Thank Jim for us please! If not for him we wouldn't be able to see Chicago in all its glory. fav
I am glad your husband got you to go outside and take this photo, Taffy. It is awesome. I love all the detail you captured. Nothing like night lights. FAV
I love your night shots.
