3:00 p.m. the sun is out and I decide to go for a photowalk. As I'm walking toward the Lake and downtown area, fog started rolling in so that the skyline had pretty much disappeared. Logical move, start walking home. And as I did (I was in Millennium Park, covered in gray fog), the fog started leaving and as I took this shot, a huge blackbird flew into the scene. That's the Bean in the lower right with a teeny reflection of the sun that was peeking out from the fog.
Thanks for the wonderful comments on the tulips -- totally unexpected and much appreciated!
This shot showed up first on my feed. As I scrolled down, I immediately thought this looks like a shot that Taffy would have taken. I wasn't to surprised when I saw that it was in fact one of your shots! Fav!
Wonderful timing on the bird, it gives this shot a surreal feel! I saw shots of the fog rolling in on the news around supper time, it stayed perfectly clear here as we are further inland.
Fabulous, so atmospheric. I was expecting to see more bats instead of a bird, but so good that the blackbird flew into your shot at just the right time.
What fabulous timing Taffy!! That bird is perfect and adds to the great atmosphere caused by the fog with the sun just peeping through!! I love the Bean in the bottom corner - can't wait to see it!! Fav!
This is magical. I love it all excpet for the halo around the bird. Do you know what caused it? and I'm still not seeing your train in the city shot. Mysterious
@jgpittenger I know what you mean re the glow around the bird and could not get rid of it. I had taken about 3 shots in very close succession and in all three there was a glow more like rim lighting. I tried several things to get rid of it and couldn't. This was the 'least worst' of my choices, but it still annoys me no end! The lighting was really strange overall so I'd not run across this particular problem before except from HDR or other post processing artificial issues. Strange you can't see the train...it may just be the one that is queasiness inducing -- the train is there but easily missed. The other train shot I posted was on Flickr, but not in Beyond 365.
Taffy, you've excelled yourself and exceeded your own super-high standards with this one. It's a very special image, and the 'halo' effect doesn't bother me one iota, the whole image is sort of supernatural anyway. I think this is one of the best shots I've ever seen on 365, ticks all my boxes. Fav.
