First, thank you so much for the many wonderful comments and favs on the 'royal' swan! Very much appreciated!
This is (dog) Moo, who is enamored of the 3 (as yet unnamed) chicks his school principal mistress has at home -- sometimes in her yard/garden, til they are big enough to join the school's 10-hen chicken coop group in a few months.
We (humans, not chicks/dogs) had dinner together last night and my friend asked if I'd photograph these and the school's chickens as she's planning to create a calendar for the kids and their families. Moo is intensely interested in these chicks and it was hard to get a single shot without a closeup of his nose. The students love the hens, have named them, collect their eggs, care for them, meditate with them, and learn about sustainable food. I've never seen such relaxed chickens so lay back around adults, kids, and dogs!
I love how you have composed this shot, with that drooling tongue just behind the chick. I think chickens make wonderful pets, although they do wreck havoc on the garden.
The chick looks particularly handsome even though it is a strange species to me. Love moo's tongue. Hope he's not waiting for the chance to pounce on the chick.
