Breakfast All Day! by taffy

Breakfast All Day!

For my get-pushed challenge this week, the focus is vintage. I took this photo two days ago with the plan to use it for a traditional vintage shot. Lou Mitchell's has been here since 1923, sitting at the start of the famous Route 66 that begins in Chicago, just west of the main downtown "Loop," crosses the country, and ends in Los Angeles. Since the start, Lou Mitchell's has been a "go to" place for politicians, celebrities, athletes, and everyday folks like me. They're open every day til about 3:00 and you can get amazing breakfasts (my favorite meal) anytime. They started a tradition in the 1950s of serving donut holes and milk duds (the latter only to kids and women) while you wait in line -- on the weekends, the lines can go down the street and around the corner. When we moved back to Chicago in 2001, one of the perks of living where we do is it's within walking distance!

love the vintage feel with the b&w, marquee, scrolly letters on the sign, vintage neons, untraditional street lamp shape... fav. this is your best one yet.

@kevinmckay Hi Kevin -- did you mention you were taking your son in a few years on the Route 66 trail? This is where you should start -- with a good breakfast to send you on the journey!

Love the vintage processing. Some of my favorite pushes have been vintage ones.

Love this - the neon sign, the processing - it all says "vintage" to me. Well done, Taffy!

You've really caught the vintage feel. Sometimes vintage just looks shabby. This is beautiful.

@laughinglarkphotography Thank you so much! That's such a kind comment to make.
@kwind Thank you!
@amandal Vintage has been a great theme for me -- both for the processing side and just thinking about what we mean more generally by the idea of vintage.
@timandelke Thanks so much Elke!
@pflaume Thank you Lisa!
@sgiesman Thanks Sarah -- I know what you mean. Some of my attempts just didn't work and I came to think more about the subject/focal point, rather than just the processing. A good week of learning.

Fantastic angle to capture all of this in one shot. It has a great vintage look to it.

Nice shot, expertly framed to keep out any modern distractions. Funny story; we had just gotten back from Meli's and we were in the elevator with another resident of our building. We were chatting about how great Meli's was, and she asked what we thought of Lou Mitchell's. We said it was OK, but noisy and the food is a bit bland. She said thanks for the feedback, I own Lou Mitchell's.

Great shot! Love the pov and collection of signs! Very vintage feel. Awesome job on your challenge this week. I'm laughing at Daniel's comment. OMG

@kazlamont @kimshots @danielwsc @colie Thanks all -- I appreciate your comment. Daniel -- that's hysterical! What were the odds???? and I do agree -- Meli's is one of my favorites for b'fast in the city. It's where we took almost every candidate who we'd had in for interviews this spring.

A fabulous shot for the vintage challenge! I'll bet that owner from Daniel's building would like to have a copy of this photo!
