I realized after reading commentaries last night that I should use my 70-300 to take a macro shot. I used what I had learned on the CSC challenge for the 'sweet 16' (F16, ISO 100 - but it ended up 125 because I didn't read the setting correctly, and shutter speed the same as ISO - 100 since that's what I'd thought I'd set for ISO). Jim dropped me off on the Amelia Island Greenway so I could do some photography undisturbed and these amazing deep red seed pods just cried out to be photographed as if I had a macro. Taken at 170mm.

Lovely Taffy! What a fab colour! I took some helicopter shots today but they were dull beige and did not look as pretty as yours! As my normal lens on my camera is my 100-400mm I often take macro shots with it. You can get great backgrounds with a long lens.
