One of two images from the day of a small pot of yellow tulips our friends gave us when they visited this week. This was taken with my 105mm macro to close out March macro month, the other with my 50mm. I prefer the one in the main album - http://365project.org/taffy/365/2014-03-31, but think the details in the macro are notably stronger.
This one is just exquisite.....it just glows from within like a lantern, and it is just so sensual with those beautiful curves, and silky, satiny skin!! Beautiful....and, a FAV!!
@redy4et Thanks Elizabeth! The lighting was really pretty mundane. We have three 'spots' that hang down over our raised counter / breakfast bar between the kitchen and dining area. I placed the far left flower just to the right of the left hand hanging spot and then arranged the flowers so the furthest right hand flower did NOT reach as far as the next spot. Then, I turned off all lights except the spots and dimmed them just a bit to avoid too much blow-out glare. I took both shots with the lighting set up pretty much the same way.
This macro allows for the appreciation of the lines and curves of the tulip's petals, something that could be easily overlooked without a close-up lens.
@darsphotos@soboy5@michaelelliott Darlene, Danny, Michael -- thank you so much for the fav on this (and visits/comments to the other versions). The spot lighting turns out to be pretty effective considering the spots are just regular lights and not photographic ones.
I disagree entirely with your assessment of the other photograph. This one is superb and the other is just bloody good. Strongly jealous but it gives me ideas as to where to target my next flower shot. Fav
