There is something very magical about sunset at an inland wetland - much more so than any other place.
The constant toing and froing of the flocks of various species of birds as they land, feed, socialise and take off again is replaced by a much more purposeful and serene movement as they slowly head off to their roosting perches for the night. It was fabulous to watch it all unfold and we were so glad that we had decided to overnight in Normanton.
I'm sure MBrutus could have described all that much better than I and used a lot more words (and fewer paragraphs).
@landownunder The wetlands are just outside of Normanton Denis and the road to Karumba passes through the very southern end. We just drove out and initially parked the car on the side of the road and walked around and then later took the car on some tracks on that headed into the wetlands from both sides of the road. Nothing could be simpler. It's not very well promoted by Normanton and I think it should be on the top of their tourist list.
