Let the Contest Begin

Day 18 - On the Road to Cloncurry, NWQ

We had not seen any Wedge Tail Eagles up until we left Normanton and headed south to Cloncurry. From then, we were engaged in a constant cat and mouse game of me trying to get a decent photograph of one and they doing their best to make sure I didn't.
We tried drive by shots and lost count of the number of times we pulled up and I would sneak back towards them only for them to fly off. I ended up with hundreds of bad shots of them and precious few decent ones.
They certainly won the battle hands/wings down.
This one is a drive by shot taken through the car windscreen.
Have a look at that wingspan. They are magnificent birds
A great capture Poppo. They are beautiful birds indeed.

They are wonderful birds and very hard to get a decent shot of in the wild. Look at the wing span on this one. A great drive by shot.

Great image - @julzmaioro and I have tried to capture images of hawks in NZ - they too are very Street savvy.

Terrific elusive capture! I know how you feel as I wanted to photograph one on my trip (that I won't mention to you!) but we saw very few and what I got was not clear - but I will post one when I get to it :)

@gilbertwood I did consider posting a collage of near misses; half a wing cut off, a tree in the way at a critical time, slightly blurred etc but I don't think so.

That is a massive wingspan alright. Impressive, the lengths you went to to get a shot of this raptor.
