It is a real drama trying to keep the lorikeets, king parrots, galahs and cockatoos away from the Pale Headed Rosellas while they have a snack. They are so timid that if anything comes within 500mtrs of them they are off. We have one special place where we put the seed when they arrive (can't just put it out or the aforementioned birds demolish it) and then we hope they can get a feed in before they are discovered.
This morning, this fellow came in to a different spot in the garden and I was able to sneak some seed out to him and surprise surprise, he came straight down.
Went looking for the camera to try to get a shot of him and couldn't find it so I grabbed Rhoda's little Canon SX50 and ended up with probably some of the best shots I have ever taken of a PHR.
The 50 times zoom certainly helped.
This posting is dedicated to MBrutus who is always banging on about how wonderful the birds are in his neck of the woods of Los Angeles.
He goes tramping through the country for months on end armed with his 1000mm bird bazooka and ends up with a shot of a grey bird of indeterminate lineage. Move to Oz MBrutus and these come into your garden just begging to be photographed.
Hooray for x50 zooms! I have x60, and it's the reason I have the camera that I do. Charlie's camera is quite superior, but not in that department. I'm glad you captured this beautiful bird. I can study each detail because of Rhoda's little camera.
