Riding the Million Dollar Highway

Day 14: Durango, Co to Eagle Co

The stretch of the US550 from Silverton to Ouray is called the Million Dollar Highway. The origin of the name Million Dollar Highway is disputed. There are several legends, though, including that it cost a million dollars a mile to build in the 1920s, and that its fill dirt contains a million dollars in gold ore.

After two days of stunning desert scenery, from Durango north, we we treated to some equally stunning mountain scenery as we travelled though the San Juan Mountains.
