The Scaly Breasted Lorikeet shares habitat and food source with the larger and more dominant Rainbow Lorikeet and hence are continuously bullied by them.
Recently we had three of them trying unsuccessfully to mix it with Rainbows in our back yard with this fellow being a little bit more successful than the other two.
Love these little guys. When I was a kid living in the country, we always called them Greenies and they were far more prevalent than the rainbows
They are such beautiful birds. We used to get a few in our garden and they mixed well with the rainbow lorikeets but after a huge east coast low a few years ago when thousands of local birds died in the storm we haven't seen any scaly breasted since.
@pusspup@gilbertwood Just had a look and their range is from the very tip of Cape York and then east of the Dividing Range down to the Illawarra in NSW so you guys wouldn't have seen them.
@louannwarren I hate seeing these wild birds in cages. I'm sure if people saw how much flying they do, the speed at which they fly and the territory they roam around in, they would not be so keen to lock them into a small cage.
