Australia's Best Songster

Continuing my week of birds in our backyard.

The Pied Butcher Bird is widely regarded as Australia's best song bird and one of the best in the world. While they can sing individually, their best song comes when two birds join in a duet with each bird playing a different part.

We have had successive generations of this family visiting us for many years. We love these guys.

And while I have been typing this narrative out, there has been a butcher bird singing in one of the nearby trees. Quite possibly, it is this guy as mum will be on the nest.

Your title is absolutely spot on and what great mimics. With this bit of rain around , only misty stuff up here as yet, one butchy set himself up yesterday in the tree outside my window and entertained himself and me with his repertoire of sounds from around the farm. He even has a clucky chook down to perfection.
