An Asian Small-clawed Otter keeping a lookout for the arrival of their dinner.
The Asian small-clawed otter's native range extends from parts of India to Southeast Asia including the islands of Sumatra, Java, Borneo and Palawan. It lives in freshwater wetlands such as swamps, meandering rivers, irrigated rice fields as well as estuaries, coastal lagoons and tidal pools.
Taken during a visit to Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin's zoo) in September.
Brought back a memory of a visit to a village fair when I was a teenager (many years ago). There was a tent at the fair and we saw people coming out laughing. We saw a sign that said 'Come in and see the amazing water otter' We paid our sixpence and in we went. In the centre of the tent was a primus stove with a whistle kettle on it. Typical Yorkshire humour. ha ha. We were sworn to secrecy and told not to let anyone know what was inside the tent. The money went to charity so we all kept quiet. I hope they made lots of money.
