We don't get Kookaburras very often for some reason or other but late this afternoon, one suddenly appeared. Did the normal thing of grabbing a few quick pics from a distance and then got some food for him. Got closer - a few more pics, even closer, better pics and next thing he was taking food out of my hand. I have no idea of what is going on but obviously he is very familiar with other humans as he showed no concern at all - even when the flash was going off. SOOC - no crop.
Nice shot. We get two kookaburra's who are regular visitors to our garden. They are very tame too and feed out of your hand. If you think about it, with a beak that size they aren't going to be scared of you.
When our two are naughty and chase the lorikeets I spray them with the hose pipe but they still don't move. ha ha.
@lyndemc They are meat eaters Denise so the same food as the magpies and butcher birds ie pet (cat/dog) mince. Actually they are very funny. They still have the natural instinct to kill their prey so when you give them a bit of meat, they bash it on the ground before they eat it.
