Just ducked down the street and into a different section of the Lane Cove NP to get a couple of pics for today.
This is the flower of Banksia Spinulosa, the Hairpin Banksia. The Banksia species is native to Australia and is usually characterised by the large candle like flowers. This particular one was about 300mm.
We have quite a few White Banksias at Amber on Storm near Stanthorpe, mainly along the creek, I love wandering amonst them , they have a distinctive scent and usually a mass with bees and now the rainbow lorikeets :-)
I'm running behind in my social picture viewing. Shame on me.
This is a most interesting plant species. At first glance, it looks rather like an ear of corn. I see I'm not the only one that thought that. Amazing how large they are in comparison to the general size of the plant they grow on. (At least according to the pics Google showed me.)
Like Denise I am way behind in viewing and commenting. Yes, shame on Denise! I have to agree that I also thought it was a variety of corn when I tried to breeze by it. Dang, I was drawn in, though. It's a great photo of an interesting subject. Thanks for introducing me to yet another new thing.
