Back in June I posted a pic of a Stone Curlew out at golf and promised that I would be able to get more later in the year since they usually nest on the course. See http://365project.org/terryliv/365/2014-06-30
Well today I came across this couple near the ninth green.
I was lying on the ground behind the green hoping that no-one would mistake me for a bunker and ignoring all the smart arse comments of the other players while I took quite a few shots of them.
The one on the left was in guard mode and had his evil eye on me and was hissing/growling at me the whole time. The one on the right was quite happy having its photo taken and seemed to pose for the shots (must be the female)
They are quite a large bird (500mm nose to tail) with long spindly legs. I always thought that they were called Stone Curlews or Bush Curlews but my bird bible calls them Bush Stone Curlews. I've left it at just Stone.
I'm laughing, Terry. I see that evil eye on the left. It's a great shot. Ahhh, the sacrifices we make for photography. I hope you didn't get any grass stains.
What do you mean, the 'poser' must've been a girl??? Hmmm. Ha ha ha. Thanks for the laugh inspired by the description of how you went about getting this pic. You really are devoted to the cause. Great pic for your efforts, by the way.
