Dalhousie Homestead Ruins by terryliv

Dalhousie Homestead Ruins

Another set of old ruins, this time Dalhousie Homestead once regarded as the most isolated of all the South Australian settlements.

There were a number of storyboards around the ruins and one of them referred specifically to the extreme isolation and quoted a Captain S A White who wrote "The solitude and depressing aspect of the place have sent former managers to sit and cry like children".

I don't think I'm very good at capturing the feeling of isolation and desolation of these places.

I love the stone work, afraid it is beyond renovations. Love the vastness :)

Love the shape of the old chimney, it looks to have been quite a small house.

How can we say beautiful to ruins, but indeed we do! The architecture of this one differs from the others and I too love that chimney!

I think you are very good at capturing the isolation because it's what I've contemplated each time I've studied the photographs in this series.

great story and picture - makes you wonder why anyone ever decided to live there in the first place

Seriously, those pioneers were brave people. I would hate to be so isolated.
