I am just posting this photo that I downloaded from The Courier Mail website for your information.
Myself and many Oz 365ers have posted photos of Sulphur Crested cockatoos from time to time but never one like this. Tropical Cyclone Debbie crossed the North Queensland coast today as a category 4 storm (5 is the max) with winds exceeding 260 kms/hr causing as yet undetermined destruction.
This poor fellow was one of the casualties. He was rescued by one of the locals at Airlie Beach and will be handed over to an experienced carer for his recovery.
I always wondered what happens to the wildlife in these events.

Poor wee thing! I'm sure he will be well looked after. Be safe Poppo - I see the whole of QLD is going to be under water over the next couple of days....
@gigiflower It's all good news now Sam. We really need the rain that Debbie will bring.
Sheralee @bella_ss and Peter Grave @peterlgrave, neither of whom post much any more should be in the thick of it about now
Poor little fellow hope he can make a full recovery, stayed a t Airlie Beach a couple of times and its was full of backpackers some in a very poor state due to drink not the weather:)
poor thing, wildlife of course take a huge battering in any natural disaster. for most of them it means dying out there, so any that can be found and rescued are preciously important.
Just saw him on TV - I do feel for the native animals. Debbie has caused so much devastation but at least the rain now for the rest of Qld will be good.
@terryliv Fortunately we missed out but also unfortunately because we were hoping for the rain. We did end up getting a few mil though. I also saw the poor little Debbie on the news tonight. My son is part of Qld Health's response team and is headed to help in the worst affected areas tomorrow.
@bella_ss When I said Charters Towers would be in the thick of it I was thinking rain not wind so that's a real bummer that you missed out. Looking at the radar, Margaret Pengelly would be really copping it at present - as we are here in Brisbane @ubobohobo
Fantastic about your son being part of QH's response team
My heart aches for the wild things who have to endure nature's fury without cover. This tells the true story of their experience. (I'll be seeing this in my sleep tonight... and worrying about all the ones who weren't as lucky to be rescued and cared for.)
I'd gotten on-line to check on your weather when I saw the news update that Debbie the 'Too had died in the night. So sad. Too many bruises most likely. Can't imagine being blown about by the wind like she likely was. Fly free beautiful creature...

Apparently "Debbie" as the cockatoo is now called has gone viral and was featured on the news tonight happily munching on a sesame cracker. Still pretty beaten up looking but no doubt it will be fine now.

Just read in the paper that Debbie, the cockatoo that is not the cyclone, didn't make it. It was dead in its cage this morning. Bummer
