No. It's not called the Heartbreak Hotel because of Elvis. A previous owner gave it this name to reflect past events in the hotel's history.
The Heartbreak Hotel sits at the junction of the Carpentaria and Tablelands Highways and is the only sign of human habitation in the 660kms from Daly Waters to Barkly Homestead. It is just a road house offering fuel, basic food, a beer or two and a campground.
But on the day we passed through, it had just been taken over by new owners who arrived to find that the previous owners had let the stock run right down before departing and all that was available was the campground.
Interesting capture and story Terry, Just hope the new owner bought it as a current business and not just the property if so they would be able to claim the loss of stock from the previous owner:)
