Day 5 - Windjana Gorge by terryliv

Day 5 - Windjana Gorge

Before all the O/S 365ers have an apoplexy, you should know that there are two main types of crocodiles in Oz. Salwater (Salties) which are the larger ones and love eating humans - or any other animal, bird or fish and the smaller freshwater crocodiles.
This is a freshwater croc and while it is not considered dangerous for humans, you still wouldn't want to go and stick your hand in its mouth to see how sharp its teeth are. There is a second croc in the water at the top of the pic. I reckon this one was almost 3mtrs long
Just had a look and according to one web site, there are on average, two humans taken by salties in Oz each year. I thought it was a bit higher than that. Seems as if tourists are the main fare for the crocs :-)

I don't care if they are salties or freshwateries - I don't like them!! You can keep them up your way!

Would not like to encounter this beast !

They scare the life out of me just looking at them!! Salties or freshwater!! My hands would have been shaking too much to take this shot!!

They're fine. I was standing only about 4 mtrs from him

@gilbertwood Come on now Denise. You aren't going to bail out on the Kimberley because of a lizard are you?

Sam
I'm with you Poppo - I thought there were more than 2 people a year taken!

A very daring shot, I don't care if they aren't dangerous you wouldn't catch me standing within 4 metres of him and I certainly wouldn't trust that smile either.

@terryliv I won't bail out but I won't get out of the boat :) And that ain't no lizard!!

He is a big freshwater croc. We saw quite a few of these fellows on our trips out to Lawn Hill Gorge, they are timid souls, love basking in the warm sun. Great shot Poppo. Fav for the crocodile :)

Great capture in stunning detail Terry, lovely composition and lighting, I would be a long way back taking this shot with a very long lens they are so scary:)

Eek. Great shot.
January 23rd, 2015
There is a sort of beauty, I would never forget the danger though!

This one looks like he's just heard a crude joke. Doesn't look like one would need to up their shutter speed to catch the action here. That's one laid-back croc.

Great capture!
January 23rd, 2015
Very interesting!
January 23rd, 2015
Yikes! I'd be running the other way.

@lyndemc Yeah Denise. They are very quiet and quite timid. The ones here are obviously quite used to humans invading their space
January 24th, 2015
Yikes! I trust you didn't invite these guys to the kid's Birthday Party!
