School days can be out of school....

The theme for this challenge made me think about our own "kids" and their school days. They all attacked life with gusto and liked school - but mainly because of their friends there. They did what they needed to and ended up achieving what they wanted (they are all clinical pharmacists now)
However, they probably most enjoyed the things that happened out of the classroom. In primary school we took them out of school for 6 months and explored Australia with them - they collected fossils, plants, rocks and lots of ideas. In high school they all found interesting science projects to explore ( pine oil as a fungicide, additives in plastic polymers to make them break down, chemicals in gum trees which act as herbicides, oxygen levels in the Broadwater, factors affecting orchid growth.... ) They turned into objective, effective scientists - and none of this happened in a "normal" school room. And little of this could have happened with the educational environment in place today - I feel it is much too structured and much too politically motivated.
Anyway - enough of this - here's a not very good result for the composite challenge. Cheers Rob ( sorry for the ear bashing!)
what was the X for? it had me wondering if he was the black sheep of the family lol

@kali66 LOl Kali - that's the same girl as in the top right hand corner - just dressed in the uniform and hat that she used to hate! And the dull, boring "busy bookwork" handed out so that the parents were happy that the girls were getting enough homework is typified by the map - in a book with no life - and her in her hated hat ( she once got into trouble for not wearing it in a supermarket while she was with me....) - it's just not what school days should be. :)

couldnt agree more! my step grandson got in more trouble for not going to school with his school jersey on than the bully that scratched a classmate using drawing pins as wolverine claws! thats pretty mixed up.

@kali66 That sounds very unfair - and it seems to be the way of the world - accepting responsibility for what you do seems to be a thing of the past. I hope your little fellow is still happy to go to school. Sorry again for the earbashing above..... Cheers Rob

Hi Katrina - Rob Z here. Thanks for your response to the composite - I'm afraid I got a little carried away when I wrote the intro - it is one of my major gripes about education as it is today. The Darkroom is a side project which is very interesting. It's a group of 7 people and we have a series of topics that we decide on in advance - one for each second week - the intervening week is a free topic.
We actually have a spare spot at the moment if you would be at all interested in taking part? The bio at the top of the page introduces the other people - although Craig is no longer in the group. I'm pretty sure you would know some of the others.
I know you are busy so I'll understand fully if you're not interested. It will be nice to have you follow us along anyway - we're a pretty diverse group. Cheers Rob

That's wonderful Katrina. Are you on facebook as we have a facebook page so we can communicate with each other. If you search for "TheDarkRoom365" it should come up. It's OK if you don't have facebook- I could just let you know what's happening through a comment here. I'll let Dee know as she kindly does most of the organizing. I'm assuming that it is OK with her - so your day is Saturday - but you can post whenever suits you - and the theme for the coming week is "building" The themes are outlined on the facebook page ( wc = week commencing)
You have to log out of your normal project and log back into the Darkroom one. I hope this all makes sense. Cheers Rob

I suggest swapping emails and then deleting that comment for safety reasons for future private communication if you're not on Facebook. Please be careful what you write in an open forum eg passwords etc. 😊
