The title of this picture is a rhetorical question since I have no idea why this juvenile white ibis was standing in the middle of the road. But I'm glad it did since I could get this shot.
This picture was taken at Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge during one of their "Open Roads Days" where areas of the refuge, normally off-limits to the public, are opened to the public.
