I only started to play the violin when I was 17 years old. Obviously I will never be a wunderkind, but I hate when people tell others that it's "too late" to start an instrument. When I began I was, on the contrary, a fast learner in comparison to the six years old kids, which had class before and after me. My teacher told me, that small children often don't understand what exactly to change in their position and they didn't hear all the music that a grown up has heard in his or her life. The only thing that is better when you start young: There is more time to practice and you don't ask to many questions about why to practice etude after etude.
