Gitarowy Rekord Guinnessa

Every year people are meeting in Wrocław to play the guitar together and eventually break their own Guinness World Rekord. The goal is to bring as many guitarists as possible.
It was definitely a great experience to be in the middle of it: there where whole families, policemen on horses, people with guy fawkes masks or dressed as cowboys, all playing the guitar.

What a great shot, but why are they holding the guitars up like that?

@stephanies I didn't find an answer for this. When I was there I had the impression they did it to show how many guitarists where in the crowd and to applaud themselves.
