Unity Temple - Oak Park

I have walked past this building more times than I can ever imagine, yet have never been inside or paid it much notice, but doing this project changes how you look at the world around you and makes you take notice of things.

The Unity Temple was Frank Lloyd Wright's first major public building and was the first monumental building to be made entirely of pourable concrete. It broke all rules of religious architectural tradition, it has no front entrance and no steeple. To many passersby it looks quite unassuming, yet is stunning in its simplicity.

A trip inside is due I think.
OMG! My home town! I went to high school just down the block from here. I was the same way - lived there through my early 20s and only went into the FLW home & studio about 2 years ago.

Nice work!

@nwpixelchick I live in Chicago, but in the Galewood area so Oak Park is just across the road so to speak so expect some more places you will recognize.

@fjmom @pittcj17 Thank you

@livvy There is a rather unassuming entrance way at the side of the building.

@ninaganci I am waiting for when my daughter gets back from school , she is interested in architecture so it will be nice to do it together. I am hoping that I will be able to take pics inside.

@altadc @dollycreek @tremerryn @mikekutz Thanks so much for your comments.
