Merchandise Mart by ukandie1

Merchandise Mart

The Merchandise Mart often known simply as the Mart was opened in 1930. It is the world’s largest commercial building and largest wholesale design center. It encompasses 4.2 million square feet, spans two city blocks and rises 25 stories. It hosts major trade and consumer shows as well as being home to corporate offices of dozens of leading firms. The Mart is visited by 38,500 people each business day.

Thank you so much every one for your comments and favs on my leaf edits. Opinion was split on which one people preferred, just as I was.
Great shot, real sense of scale

I used to walk this bridge every day! Thanks for the posting. The Trump Tower was in process of being built, so it's nice to see the completed building.

@jmrittle Thanks Marc, I am not sure what the name of the building to the right is. Trump Tower is a few blocks up, past the Marina Towers. I will have to find a shot of it for you.

The architecture is so typical of the time it was built... and this is a good thing! What struck me particularly about this is how out of this world it must have seemed in 1930 - an incredible undertaking for that era. Thanks for sharing this Andie, I had never heard of it before.

Yikes, that is huge indeed. I would get lost in there. Fantastic shot to show it off.

It's massive! We have the Mart in our city, too.

Wow what a massive building! Amazing how it can almost make the neighboring skyscraper seem so tiny (obviously still very tall but it's a twig in comparison) yet knowing the mart is 25 stories, show how tall the neighboring tower is. Great detail and awesome shot!
