The Aqua Tower is one of Chicago's newer skyscrapers and was completed in 2009. It is the largest project ever awarded to an American firm headed by a woman, Jeanne Gang, principal and founder of Studio Gang Architects.
It contains 215 hotel rooms (floors 1-18), 476 rental residential units (floors 19-52), and 263 condominium units & Penthouses (floors 53-81). Aqua is the first downtown building to combine condos, apartments and a hotel.
Awesome image Andie, I agree with @voiceprintz JT, terrific that the design was awarded to a firm headed by a woman. Do you know if it'll be on the architecture tour next year?
A fab shot.. so crisp and clear against the sky. The lines on this building are very interesting, so curvy. I really like the way the windows pick up the blue of the sky, so they look like reflecting pools on the side of the building. We would miss that if you did a b&w, but the shape of the building makes me curious how it would turn out.
