My question is, what do the subjects of your images think when you snap a picture of them? I love street photography, but I still am tentative to take images of a lot of strangers. Did you also have this fear/tentativeness when you started with street photography?
All of my street shots are candid and the subjects never know I have taken them, some of them are taken from the hip and some of them are very obvious to the subject. I live by the rule of not posting or shooting something that I would not want posted if it was a shot of me. I look at it as documenting a period of time. I was definitely tentative when I started out, and still am at times, the more confident you appear the less people will look at you. A good way to start to build up your confidence is to shoot silhouettes, or minimal street shots where the subject is part of a larger architectural piece.
