Stripes

On campus today. I wasn't sure what to do with cropping this image. On the one hand, the empty space on the left bothers me a bit, on the other - none of the crop options I tried made me happy.
Thank you so much for stopping by, viewing, commenting and critiquing!
Nice patterns on the building. Looks lovely in b&w. Everyone spends so much time texting these days don't they. I think the crop is perfect.

I see your problem with the cropping, I don't mind the empty space on the left but would probably prefer a fraction less, but I would't want to lose any of the top or bottom of the image! Unhelpful... I know!! X

@onewing Thanks, Babs! You know - I am actually encountering a lot of cases where you think someone is texting, but they actually doing other things. Many of students have their textbooks in electronic form, or download and review the lecture notes/slides, or use online dictionaries.... So the old rule "no cellphones in the lecture room" always gets modified with "unless you are using some of the study materials" :)

@missalice Thanks, Alice! It's actually helpful, because my first thought was also to crop a bit on the left. But if it is just a bit, I found, I end up on a white stripe and it doesn't look so good. Going to the next grey one leaves the image a bit too cropped for my taste :) Thank you for your input!

I like the space on the left - it emphasises and isolates the figure. But then I'm doing my project without any cropping so I'm probably not he best person to ask. Love the shot anyway...

Lovely capture, processing and POV, Vera. I like the shot as is. The grey area appears to be the best lines to use as the crop lines as they are balanced on both sides. I like the tree on the right side and the over hanging leaves.

Interesting b and w.

I love it. I think the black window and tree trunk balance each other out nicely, as do the grey stripes. Great use of this quite light b&w

As others have comments, I think it's great the way it is and looks great on black. :)

I like your crop, not sure if this is the full image, but cannot imagine a crop of the presented image working an better than this. Did you try flipping the image left to right. The shape of the girl dictates the eye travel so flipping the image would have made it a strong left to right image. I like the way the vertical lines do not align.

I like the composition. I t lets you see more of the stripes and the tree helps to hold it all together. Lovely.

I like this image too.

I like the composition Vera - it works well

I like the space to the left, it gives the shot a feeling of isolation.

I like how you have chosen to crop this. The lines on the building are so interesting too.

I don't mind the empty space at all. It simply draws the eye to the figure. Love the composition.

I like how you have done this. The building has enough interest so that it doesn't feel like there is empty space.

Thank you so much everyone for your input! It was a good confirmation of my initial feeling that I should leave the space on the left as it is - both the patterned nature of it and the feeling of isolation that it gives to the image - those were spot on when I read them.

@bob65 - about flipping the image: I've heard a lot of times that an image could be oriented in a certain way to be better "perceived" for an eye, but I think maybe I (personally) might have some left-handedness in me or my brain is wired a bit differently, but the flipped version did not agree with me somehow! I will try to find more information on this - now I am intrigued!

Thanks!
