We went on a day trip to the fortress "Oreshek" = "little Nut" at the beginning of the Neva river. First built by Russian settlers in the 14th century, then taken by Sweden for a century or so, later won back by Peter the Great to protect Russia's access to the Baltic Sea. Also rich history during the WWII, playing the key role in not letting siege ring around (back then) Leningrad to be closed completely. And yes - those clouds produced a thunderstorm, with us already safely on the main land.
I thought you must have been away since I hadn't seen any pictures from you in a while, then I just discovered I had somehow unchecked the "follow" box. Oops!
@whimsicalgrateful That's a bummer! I am glad you figured it out - love your comments. I haven't been commenting much since all the travel, but I've been posting a lot - both in the main album and also the other one. Have fun catching up if you have time - we've covered a lot of ground with the kids in these last couple of weeks :)
I love the drama in this one.
