Today, friend's daughter had her first day of first grade. This is a picture I snapped at the welcoming ceremony at the school. My favorite part of the whole day is that apart from the excitement of going to school for the first time ever, kids in Germany get a huge cone-shaped "Schultüte" (that they usually make and decorate with their parents in advance). On the first day of school, the package miraculously fills up with sweets, school supplies, books and little presents. So, all the first graders proudly carry it to school, then home, where they happily unpack it after the "long" school day. I just love the view of all those little "cone-bearers" (in addition to the huge colorful German school backpacks) walking to schools from all parts of town, all bursting with pride, surrounded by the happy families.
Vera, I am Kathy, your get pushed partner this week. I have looked through your very diverse and extremely interesting photos and can see that you are a skilled and creative photographer. As your challenge, I would like you to do a colorful abstract, the subject of your choice. Accept?
