Spent a good portion of the night in PJs in the cold air on a balcony with a coughing and weezing kid who woke up at 2 am gasping for air. And then spent the whole day on the floor with the same kid who did not show any symptoms all day, just wanted to play. So we did.
I am not happy about this picture really - there is something about this blurry blob of Jenga-bricks that blends with his skin tone and is probably a big mystery without knowing the title of the picture, but hey, 365 is about 365 pictures, not 365 masterpieces, right? Thank you for your comments, critique and ideas for improvement. All of those are very appreciated!
I'm sorry you had such a rough night. I hate when my kids are sick. I have one home today, too. I actually really like this picture. I like that his eyes are in perfect clarity and he's reaching out to the blurry blob. The jenga piece on the floor next to his face tells us what he's reaching for. If the blur was clear, it would distract from the focal point of the picture, which is your son's beautiful face.
Oh, I empathize as an adult with asthma and has so many issues with good air quality! But your photo you are not sure about -- I think it really works! The look on his face is beautiful concentration, the jenga piece on the floor gives the clarity for the jenga game, and I like the blobby mystery of what he's concentration so hard on!
@amandal@jyokota Thank you so much for your comments! I am happy to say it was not asthma, but what doctor described as false croup - caused by infection. But since we have not been familiar with asthma-symptoms or something like this, we were completely caught off-guard last night, which made the whole series of events particularly scary. Having it so fresh in the memory, I can't even imagine how hard it would be if it were asthma and you know it will come back, and that your child will be gasping for air again!

Thank you for your opinions on the picture! I am glad that the "blob" is not that distracting and helps to highlight the face for the viewer. I also was hoping that that Jenga piece on the floor might help with the context.
Oh my, Vera. I was wondering if this might be croup from your description. Our eldest had it years ago at nine months - we were also terrified. The doctor came and told us to steam up the bathroom and keep him in there, which had the desired effect. I'm glad to say it was a rare occurrence ... He's now 26 and 6'6"! Glad your boy was fine today, even if you were both tired. It's a lovely shot - amazing eyes and a little playfulness in the lips - and that concentration :)
I had the same experience as @pistache and found the steam helped eventually! He is now a healthy adult - its the younger one who had asthma but not badly. I don't know what jenga is but will find out!
Sounds like a really rough night! Hope he continues to feel better. I don't find the blurry blocks distracting at all, my focus is on your beautiful boy!
My daughter has had croup, it is a scary occurrence. I can empathize with your night. We bought a humidifier for her for sleeping at night. I am OK with the Jenna pile being out of focus as I agree it would detract from your lovely son's face.
Hope this night was better for your little one and you, Vera and that he does feel better by now. Great capture. I love the pov and the focus on his dark eyes.
I think it would work a little better if the tower was less blurred. But I still like the look of concentration on her face. 365 is about what you want it to be really. Some like me are using it to learn more about photography and others to record their daily lives. I like following all the different types.
