One of the biggest holidays in Russia, this day now has hardly anything to do with fighting for women's rights or feminism. Instead, it celebrates femininity, love, spring. Kind of a cross-bread of Mother's day (but you don't have to be a mother), and Valentine's day (but you don't have to be in love either!). You just have to be a girl and a woman, and it's your day! We do celebrate it in our family (or so I demand :)) and my husband dutifully brings me flowers on each 8th of March. How lucky for me today, as I was taking pictures without SD card in my camera the whole day! :)
Here in South Africa we have a dedicated Women's Day in August, so apart from social media, yesterday's international day went largely unnoticed. What a shame.
Flowers are a lovely way to celebrate femininity, love and spring.
This is a great shot Vera, but I think this sounds like a very cool day. I love the fact that this is not for mothers or lovers but just overall femininity, love and spring - how beautiful.
