Long story for today's picture.
We met with friends at the park, kids were playing, parents chatting, when I looked up and saw two guys walking on the ice out on the middle of the "pond" made by the wide-flowing river. I pointed at them, telling a friend of mine that if I were them, I wouldn't go on the ice - it didn't seem all that strong at all. Two minutes later, we saw all people on the playground to rush to the shore, screaming and trying to figure out what to do: both guys were under water, trying to hold on to thin ice crust. This doesn't look that far away in this picture, but it was quite a way for them to make it to the shore in the ice-cold water. Long story short, they made it, utterly in shock and soaking wet, shivering.
My husband gave them a ride to their car at the other end of the park - now the seats are soaking wet as well, but who cares - I am glad they were safely delivered to their car and hope they got home OK to take a hot shower and to change into warm clothes.
On the reflecting note - I didn't take any pictures of them in the water, and I am glad I didn't, although I had my camera on me, ready to go. It seemed unfitting. Although I myself didn't need to help (there were enough people trying), I didn't feel like taking pictures would be the right thing to do, although it would have been a one-of-a-kind photo.
Thanks for visiting!
A rather terrifying story and I agree with your reasons for not taking a picture, although you could have sent it to the young men as a reminder to not be so stupid in the future!
They are so lucky to have people around to help them. What a story! I do understand that helping is better than standing their and taking photos of the accident...although they may have needed a photo to remind them what a dangerous situation they were in! :)
A great shot that tells a story.
